New Patients

Please call our office to schedule your first dental appointment. Upon scheduling any appointment, as a new patient, we will send you a "welcome packet" including all the necessary paperwork, if time allows.

As a new patient to our practice, you should anticipate scheduling one of these three appointments:

1) A second opinion / consult - If you are unhappy or concerned about a diagnosis your current dentist has given you, Dr. Overmyer will be happy to take a look. If you have any current x-rays or records pertaining to this diagnosis, please bring them with you to this appointment to save on the cost of retaking these aids. Second opinions for diagnosis are free of charge!

2) An emergency visit - If you are experiencing a dental emergency, you can schedule an appointment to see Dr. Overmyer for a quick exam to diagnose the problem. After you receive a diagnosis, we can make sure you are comfortable and then schedule any necessary appointments for treatment.

3) A new patient visit - If you are not experiencing a dental emergency or are in need of a consult, we will schedule you for a new patient visit. We schedule this appointment prior to any cleanings or restorative appointments to properly determine your specific dental needs.

(Note: children and teens up to a certain age may be scheduled with the hygienist for their first visit; please inquire about this when you call). Read further for more detailed information on your new patient visit.

Detailed information regarding your new patient visit:

We know that your first visit to our office is a very important visit. This is where you will meet Dr. Overmyer and his staff. We will obtain information on your health and dental history, and we will also become acquainted with your oral condition, so we will know exactly what type of treatment, whether it be preventive, restorative, etc., will suit you the best!

Your "new patient" visit with our office will include:

a) X-rays: We will take a full set; usually 18-22 pictures, but this depends on your remaining teeth. This full set is taken once every 3 to 5 years.

b) A comprehensive exam: Dr. Overmyer will check the health of your teeth, gums and surrounding soft tissues. He charts all existing work and treatment plans for any future work that would be needed. You will learn all about your mouth and be given the opportunity to address anything you may want in regards to your dentistry. It turns out that many patients are astounded by the care and commitment we take in learning about their mouths, and in return, teaching them what we see!

Transferring Dentists?

If you are transferring from another dentist and have current records, we would be happy to assist you in getting your records transferred as well. Please call our office for additional details.

What to expect from your first appointment:
Being well-prepared for your first appointment will ensure that Dr. Overmyer has all of the needed information to provide you with the best care possible. It will also help relieve any unnecessary anxiety you may be feeling. If you are anxious prior to your first appointment, please inform the staff. It is not uncommon for people to experience anxiety prior to a dental appointment, so we understand and will do everything within our power to make you feel comfortable. It may help if you take some time to review the "Our Team” page and familiarize yourself with Dr. Overmyer and his team.

We look forward to meeting you!
